A Remarkable Park City Renovation

I had the pleasure of personally strolling through this stunning estate prior it going on the market. I imagine you'll be just as amazed once you look at the before pictures at the end to admire the vision the architects had on just how to catapult this dated home into the modern and gorgeous estate it ended up being today.

Most people fall in love with Park City when they first see the area, but how many people do you know buy a home the first day they arrive? That is exactly what happened to a native California couple. Ken and Margo Jacobs first stepped foot in Park City back in 1999 and were so enamored with the area they bought a Grand Summit timeshare before they unpacked their bags.

It wasn’t until 2008 the couple decided to become full-time residents of Park City where they now call home. The Jacobs became drawn to the Park Meadows knowing it was a quaint, family community. With the proximity to town and schools combined with amazing views we all know it offers, they decided to purchase a home for an investment. It was at this address they became acquainted with Architect/Builder Scott Jaffa, CEO of Jaffa Group. He was already resident in the home and became their first tenant. With his intimate knowledge and layout of the home, he became indispensible in the decisions and improvements the Jacobs would later face when they decided to renovate.

Extending the front elevation allowed for another bedroom, en suite and second laundry area.

The construction began in early 2016. “Virtually everything needed to be done as the home was extremely dated,” explained Ken Jacobs. “The bathrooms and kitchen hadn’t been updated since the home was built in 1991. The windows to the rear were small, blocking the view.” With the home sitting on the fairway Park Meadows golf course, that backyard view was imperative.

The team eliminated the sunken living room and reconfigured the staircase to a more sleek and modern look and transformed the adjacent closet into an expansive loft encased in a sleek, metal-mesh railing.

To capture the home’s natural light, they enlarged the windows and eliminated walls to open the kitchen and living areas. Echoing the contemporary feel and aiding in the new open concept, a local company, Handmade Industries, handcrafted a glass and metal cabinet separating the dining area from the kitchen area.

Utilizing space above the garage, they added 800 square-feet to the home enabling another bedroom with an ensuite as well as a second laundry room.

Other unanticipated repairs came along the way including the need to rebuild the deck from scratch as well as ripping out the existing driveway due to poor compaction.

No expense was spared, as the Jacobs kept the new owner’s interest in the forefront of their mind. A favorite feature of Ken’s is behind a glass door. There you will find a roomy, walk-in wine closet any homeowner would love to showcase nestled off the living room: a standalone piece of art.

Can you believe the room to store a priceless wine collection?

Closed in with too many walls, the kitchen now seamlessly integrates into dining and living spaces.

Looking on to the golf course, the master bedroom now boasts larger windows to absorb the impeccable sights.

Now with a completely new deck, the new owners can watch the golf game all day out here.

I'm sure you will agree it would be difficult to leave this home, particularly the deck bordering the golf course. My son fell in love and didn't want to go home.
