Let's Taco 'bout Tacos

I recently had the opportunity to attend a VIP event introducing the first Utah County location of Taqueria 27 in Lehi. The brainchild of Todd and Kristin Gardiner, the doors are scheduled to open tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 23rd).

As a chef for a Salt Lake restaurant years ago, Todd suggested this unique, fresh-taco concept to the owners. They quickly dismissed his idea. Undeterred, he left that restaurant and ran with his innovative idea and is now opening his sixth location across the Wasatch Front.

We sampled a variety of unique tacos as well as a "guacamole of the day" accompanied with crisp, tasty chips. I must say, the one taco you will certainly want to try that knocked my socks off was the Roasted Mushroom. I have never tasted anything like it. Loaded with a variety of mushrooms, gorgonzola, and chimichurri; however, the surprising star was the addition of crispy leak strings. Do not go here without giving this taco a try. Check out the variety of other offerings on their menu.

Everything in this restaurant is fresh. "We don't have a microwave or a freezer in the restaurant," explained Kristin. A new thing for the area is an open bar as well, Kristin said. Due to the recent state liquor law changes, this is a new concept.

With plenty of seating both inside and outside, I'm sure it will thrive in this new location nestled in drumming business area near Harmon's at Traverse Mountain.
